Arts Integration Professional Development!

Yesterday, Ceilidh Galloway-Kane led over 40 after school professionals in a training on how to integrate the arts into their classroom. The training was held at Lyndon Town School and was in partnership with the KEAP program which provides after school service to Lyndon, Concord, Miller’s Run, Lunenberg, Burke, Newark, and Sutton. Over the past year, WonderArts has received numerous requests for support outside of our district. As a way to support education and wellbeing in the Northeast Kingdom we are focusing on providing direct service to schools and towns in the Orleans Southwest Supervisory union and shoulder towns like Albany and Glover. Professional Development is a way for us to provide additional services throughout the Northeast Kingdom that directly serve after school professionals and indirectly serve schools, children, and families.

During the training teachers worked together to build marshmallow towers, draw, and create found object images of how they want children to feel in their classroom. Using the arts they worked together to create portraits out of recycled paper, bottle caps, fabric, and more. They would like all students to feel a sense of wonder, to be calm, to feel safe, to be engaged, to be welcomed, to be inspired, and to have a home. This was an amazing experience for both teachers and WonderArts.

High - quality after school programs are essential for children and families in our region and throughout the country. We are lucky to work with schools and teachers who are dedicated to providing the best possible environment for kids. We can’t wait for our next training!

the workshop reinforced for me the importance of arts in education and started me thinking about how I could bring more art activities to afterschool

Back to School!

Continuing our tradition of providing creative and active enrichment opportunities for schools, we are excited about our most diverse offering of afterschool classes yet!

This fall, we'll be writing songs with Jon Gailmor at Wolcott Elementary, learning Tae Kwon Do with Jennifer Fliegelman at Albany Community School, making miniature houses and friends with Skye Livingston at Woodbury Elementary, and felting, braiding and stitching with Susanna Geilen at Craftsbury Academy.

Starting in October we will be hosting two after school programs at Lakeview! We are always open to ideas, thoughts, and dreams about how we can make after school enrichment even better, more fun, and creative!

Additionally, pre-schoolers at 4 Seasons of Early Learning will soon be learning French through songs with Alice Perron and exploring their creativity with Alexandra Turner.
