WonderArts Community Wish

WonderArts Community Wish

Located in the heart of Vermont's beautiful Northeast Kingdom, WonderArts is a multi-generational, community-based nonprofit that cultivates creativity, collaboration, and conversation through the arts, recreation, and innovative programming.

We envision a vibrant and sustainable community that is supportive of the arts, education, and culture. An integrated and multi-generational community that is welcoming to families and kids and where elders are able to age with dignity. A community that has a strong sense of place and is active with varied outlets for recreation. And we envision a community that is engaged with opportunities for sustainable jobs and economic development.

Our programs, events, and initiatives primarily serve the communities of Craftsbury, Greensboro, and Hardwick while also reaching other parts of the Northeast Kingdom. We are proud to live, work, and play in this place and are dedicated to strengthening, supporting, and building a vibrant, resilient, and safe community.

Our Vision - Create An Engaging and Beautiful Community Greenspace

WonderArts is dedicated to providing our communities with opportunities to explore, recreate, and connect with our environment. In 2016, we revitalized a property in Craftsbury village into a community greenspace to provide a public place for creativity, education, exploration, and recreation. The 321 Community Greenspace is a space that continues to be transformed through the contributions of volunteers, local contractors, students, schools, town partners, foundations, and private donors. The 321 Greenspace features a small stream, amphitheater, sugar house, pond, wetland boardwalk, natural playground, upland meadow, and a beautiful labyrinth.

In January 2016, a two-acre property in Craftsbury Village was donated to Wonder & Wisdom. Usable materials were salvaged, a tent sale was held, and the deteriorated buildings were razed in April. Community members volunteered and contributed financial gifts of support. The Vermont Community Foundation's Green Mountain Fund and Craftsbury Community Fund provided grants.

Landscaping was completed to create a grassy common and hillside amphitheater. An observation deck and performance stage were constructed in June and July. Afterschool kids from WonderArts and students from Craftsbury Academy and Sterling College helped to clean up the property and build trails.

The greenspace is located at the south gateway to Craftsbury Village, diagonally opposite from Pete's Greens. The two-acre site is ideal for programming partnerships. Through support from the Vermont Community Foundation and the Vermont Arts Council, The Art House completed a beautiful labyrinth on the east end of the greenspace, which opened in August 2016.

The new greenspace is coming alive as a venue for the arts, education, and recreation. Your support will help us realize the full vision of this property as a shared community resource.

Are you a teacher looking to incorporate the Community Greenspace into your curriculum? Four Sterling College Students created a guide/curriculum handbook for the space! Feel free to download the guide! If you would like the support of WonderArts staff please email Carol Fairbank at or call 802.533.9370.
