Macrame, or knot-weaving, is a meditative and diverse medium. If you can tie a knot with it you can macrame with it.
This course is lead by Christine Dudley and geared towards the very beginner and will teach the foundational basics of a style of micro-macrame called “alpha style”. These patterns are composed of only two very simple knots in which you can compose an image or phrase “pixel” style. Just like with digital images the more knots (pixels), the clearer your image will become.
Christine will teach you TWO ways to create your own patterns, one with basic photo editing software, the other with graphing paper and pencils. Then we will get to knot-tying!
All materials are included.
The class is $15 for non-members and $10 for members!
These patterns can be used to create bracelets, keychains, earrings, or for the industrious small bags or other fiber-craft. You may be familiar with friendship bracelets from childhood. The foundational knots are the same but the set-up and pattern style are very different. The “alpha” style is only limited in imagery by how many knots you can tie!
We will provide supplies to get you started! Bring your ideas for what you’d like to weave. Some great examples: a simple logo or symbol that has meaning to you, a short inspirational phrase, or a fun geometric pattern that resonates with you.
